Handmade from scratch (by me) in my rural Ohio glass and etc. studio, this stellar steampunk dichroic glass barrette features a fun sprinkling of gears and clock mechanisms and the photos are of the exact item for sale.

Dichroic glass was originally invented by NASA, but it found its home with glass artists. Dichroic - which means two color in Greek - is a perfect name for this glass, as it has two (or more) colors that show up depending on the light. This one shifts from hot pink to a vibrant orange-y color on the edges (see the second photo!) and if you like it online it won't disappoint in person.

Normally my barrettes stay well in hair that is both fine and slippery, because the barrette back is made in France, and it has been engineered to not slip out of hair easily. Because this particular barrette is a little thicker and heavier than my standard style of barrettes, I would suggest if you have really fine hair that you may want to plan on wearing it in an updo. They stay really well in my hair (which is super fine) but I don't want any disappointed customers.

  • Barrette measures just under 3 3/4” long (9.3 cm) by nearly 7/8" wide (2 cm), and every barrette ships out from my glass studio in a gift box.
  • The metal clip will rust if you expose it to long term water use, ie: showers and pools
  • It is a glass barrette, so please plan to wear a different hair accessory if you’re gonna go play, say, rugby on concrete or other extreme sports activities.
