Made from a dichroic glass that I refer to as "the squiggle stuff", this barrette is handmade in my Ohio studio, and comes to you gift boxed. *Please note, I do make repeats in this glass*, but if the finished barrette doesn’t look pretty close to my stock photo, I would take new photographs of it and use those instead.*
Dichroic glass is really cool stuff - it's a shimmery, glittery two-colored glass that was originally invented by NASA. The colors will shift as the light hits it, (especially at an oblique angle). Although I've done my best to show this in the photos, if you're ever seen dichroic glass in person, you know that photographs never quite do it justice.
My barrettes typically measure between 3 1/2" and 3 3/4" (9-10 cm long) and 7/8" (20mm) wide, and whether you have thick hair or thin hair, because I use a French-made clip, they generally stay well in nearly everyone's hair. However, since this barrette is fused (meaning multiple layers of glass were melted together to make it), it may not be suitable if you have really super fine hair unless you plan to wear it in an twisted updo.
Worried about durability? Glass barrettes will break if treated harshly, but I drop my small set on my bathroom counter with regularity, and I've owned the same couple of barrettes since I started making them several years ago.
I do not recommend wearing my barrettes in a pool or shower as it can make the clip rust. I also do not recommend playing rugby on concrete or any other extreme contact sport while wearing my barrettes. :)
