This barrette is made from a pretty blue glass, and in the center of it, I've etched a dragonfly design. Dragonflies have long represented good luck in both Asian and Native American cultures.
All of my barrettes shipped within the US come to you in a small gift box.
All of my items are handmade in my rural Ohio glass and metal studio, and while I make several of this style with this color of glass, they're close enough in look that while you may not receive the exact one in the photo, it will be similar enough to it that you probably won't be able to tell.
My barrettes typically measure between 3 1/2" and 3 3/4" (9 - 10 cm long) and 1"(3 cm) wide.
Even if you have extremely fine hair, the French-made clasp on this barrette should hold - my own is very fine and slippery, and I wear one of my own glass barrettes in it nearly every day. I recommend at least shoulder length hair if your hair is fine and slippery. People with thick hair, this barrette should fit you as well.
But glass barrettes?!? Actually, they're great! I'm a klutz in real life (I just play a competent glass artist during working hours ;) and I drop my barrettes all the time. I also have a bad habit of chucking one in my ginormous purse and then forgetting about it. Neither activity is recommended, but none of the ones I've kept have broken from such activities. I would also keep your barrette out of the pool and shower, as exposure to direct and repeated soakings can encourage rust growth on the metal clip. If you work in a sterile setting, you can wipe the barrette down with an alcohol wipe, as glass is non-porous. (I have a lot of customers who are nurses.)
